Baseball Summer Camp in Staten Island: What Our July 13–17 Camp Actually Looks Like

We’re running our baseball summer camp again this year at South Shore Little League in Tottenville, Staten Island. July 13–17, 9AM to 2PM, ages 6–12. $400 for the week.

If you’ve never sent your kid to one of our camps, here’s what the week actually looks like.

Monday morning, half the kids show up quiet. New field, new coaches, kids they don’t know. That’s why we start every morning with a different ice breaker game — something fun to get everybody loose, laughing, and ready to go before the baseball even starts. The quiet lasts about five minutes. Once the first hitting station starts and somebody barrels one, the noise picks up and it doesn’t really stop for five days.

Mornings rotate through hitting and fielding stations in small groups, so nobody’s standing in a line of fifteen kids waiting for one swing. On the hitting side it’s stance, load, and contact. In the field it’s footwork and glove work. We keep every station competitive because that’s what makes a 9-year-old want the next rep. Who hits the target. Who turns the double play. Who wins the station. Kids will run through a wall for bragging rights over a bucket of balls, and we use that.

Afternoons are game situations and scrimmages. Baserunning, cutoffs, where to go with the ball. We teach it in live play instead of standing around talking about it, and the end-of-day scrimmage is the thing campers are still going on about at pickup. By Friday, the kid who wouldn’t call for a pop-up on Monday is pointing at the sky yelling “MINE.”

The coaches are the same staff who train Staten Island kids year-round at our facility on Arthur Kill Road, and they’re good with this age group. They know when a kid needs a mechanical fix and when he just needs a high five and another rep. A 6-year-old picking up a glove for the first time and an 11-year-old travel player both get grouped with kids at their level, and both go home tired, sweaty, and asking to come back.

Logistics

Hot lunch is available daily, so you don’t have to pack one. There’s a sibling discount: use the code siblingdiscount26 to apply it. And the location is hard to beat — a real field with easy parking and easy drop-off, which isn’t something you take for granted anywhere in New York City. If you live on Staten Island’s South Shore, 243 Bedell Ave is a five-minute drive for most Tottenville, Charleston, and Annadale families. No trip across the island.

Spots are limited and we’re under two weeks out. Register at momentumsportsny.com/product/summer-camp or call/text 646-504-2989. Questions about lunch, skill levels, whether your kid is ready — email info@momentumsportsny.com and you’ll get an answer from someone who’ll actually be on the field that week.
