Getting Started

How do I record at 240fps?

Open the Record tab and tap the frame rate pill at the top of the screen. Select 240fps. Note that 240fps is only available at 1080p on iPhones that support it (iPhone 11 and newer for the wide lens). If you see “120fps” as the maximum, your device or lens combination doesn’t support 240.

How do I scrub frame-by-frame?

On the playback screen, drag the scrubber at the bottom of the screen left or right. Drag right to rewind, left to fast-forward — the film strip moves with your finger like a real jog wheel. You can also flick the strip to coast through the clip with momentum.

How do I draw on a frame?

Pause the clip where you want to annotate. The tool palette appears on the right side of the screen. Tap a tool (pen, highlighter, rectangle, circle, or angle), then draw directly on the video. Tap UNDO or REDO at the bottom of the palette to step through your drawings. Drawings are saved with the clip and reappear next time you open it.

How do I measure an angle?

Select the angle tool from the palette. Tap three points on the frame in order: first ray endpoint → vertex → second ray endpoint. The angle measurement appears at the vertex.

How do I compare two clips?

From the gallery, tap “Select” in the top-left, choose two clips, then tap the Compare button at the bottom. Or from the playback screen, tap the Compare icon in the top bar and pick a second clip. To sync the two clips to a reference moment, pause each one at the sync point (contact, release, takeoff, etc.) and tap the link icon between the scrubbers — dragging then moves both clips together from that reference.

How do I record voiceover narration?

On the playback screen, tap the red REC button in the top bar. CoachCam captures screen + mic audio as a new clip in your gallery. Tap REC again to stop. The new clip shows up in the gallery ready to share.

How do I trim a clip?

Open a clip, tap the “…” menu in the top-right, and choose Trim. Drag the two coral handles to set the in and out points. Tap Save Trim. The trimmed version is saved as a new clip; the original stays untouched.

Sharing & Saving

What can I share from CoachCam?

Open a clip and tap the share button in the top bar. You’ll see six options: Share Frame (the current frame as an annotated screenshot), Save Frame to Photos, Share Clip (the raw video file), Save Clip to Photos, Share Annotated Video (your drawings baked into the video), and Save Annotated Video to Photos. Each can be sent through AirDrop, Messages, Mail, or any installed app.

What’s the difference between sharing the clip and sharing the annotated video?

Share Clip sends the original recording with no drawings on it. Share Annotated Video re-renders the clip with your telestration baked in as a permanent overlay — the recipient sees your drawings on the video. The annotated render takes a few seconds depending on clip length.

How do I share two compared clips as one video?

Compare mode doesn’t export both clips as a single side-by-side video in v1. The simplest workflow is to record a voiceover session over Compare mode (the REC button in the top bar) and share the resulting video, which captures both panels plus your narration as a single clip.

How do I share a clip from the gallery without opening it?

Long-press any row in the gallery and choose Share Clip or Save Clip to Photos. You can also tap Select, choose one clip, and use the action bar that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Devices & Compatibility

What iPhones does CoachCam support?

Any iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Core features work on every supported device. 240fps capture requires hardware that supports it — generally iPhone 11 and newer on the wide lens.

Does CoachCam work on iPad?

Not yet. CoachCam is iPhone-only for version 1. iPad support may come in a future update.

Does CoachCam work with Apple Watch?

Not currently. Remote start/stop from Apple Watch is under consideration for a future release.

Can I use external cameras or capture devices?

No. CoachCam uses the built-in iPhone cameras only. You can import clips shot on other devices via the Import button in the gallery, as long as the file is in a standard video format (MOV, MP4, M4V).

Video Quality & Storage

My videos look choppy or the slow-motion doesn’t look smooth.

If capture itself is choppy, try dropping from 240fps to 120fps, or from 1080p to 720p. High frame rates require good lighting — dim indoor settings can cause the camera to reduce quality. If playback scrubbing feels slow, open Settings → Advanced and try increasing the frame density or resolution cap.

Why are my clips so large?

240fps video at 1080p produces large files — typically around 400 MB per minute. This is inherent to the format, not a CoachCam issue. Trim clips down to just the reps you need, and delete old clips you’ve already shared.

Where are my clips stored?

All clips live on your iPhone in CoachCam’s private storage. They don’t appear in your Photos app unless you explicitly export them. You can see total storage used in Settings → Storage.

How do I free up space?

In the gallery, swipe left on any clip and tap Delete. To wipe everything at once, go to Settings → Storage → Delete All Clips.

Does CoachCam back up my clips anywhere?

No. CoachCam does not sync to iCloud, Google Drive, or any other service. If you delete the app or reset your phone, your clips are gone unless you’ve exported them first. We recommend saving important clips to your Photos library as a backup.

Athletes & Organization

How do I assign a clip to an athlete?

Open the clip, tap the “…” menu in the top-right, and choose Edit Info. Pick an athlete from the list or tap “Add Athlete” to create a new one. You can also add tags here.

How do I manage my athlete roster?

Settings → Athletes. You can add, rename, and delete athletes from this screen. Deleting an athlete doesn’t delete their clips — the clips just become “Unassigned” and can be reassigned later.

Can I merge two athletes who were added twice by mistake?

Not in v1. You’ll need to open each clip assigned to the duplicate athlete, change the assignment, and then delete the duplicate. Automatic merge is on the roadmap.

Privacy & Data

Does CoachCam collect my data?

No. CoachCam has no accounts, no cloud, no analytics, and no trackers. Everything you record stays on your iPhone unless you choose to share or save it. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Can CoachCam see my photo library?

No. The Import feature uses Apple’s standard photo picker, which runs outside the app and only hands over the specific clip you select. Saving to Photos uses add-only access — the app can write new items but cannot read your existing photos or videos.

Billing

Is CoachCam a subscription?

No. CoachCam is a one-time purchase. Buy it once, use it forever, including all future updates.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find the CoachCam purchase, and request a refund.

Does CoachCam have in-app purchases?

No. Everything in the app is included in the purchase price.

Troubleshooting

The app crashed or froze.

Force-quit CoachCam (swipe it away from the app switcher) and reopen it. If it happens repeatedly, please email info@momentumsportsny.com with a description of what you were doing when it happened and your iPhone model.

Recording won’t start.

Make sure you’ve granted camera permissions. Go to iPhone Settings → CoachCam and verify Camera and Microphone toggles are on.

Save to Photos fails or asks me to grant permission again.

CoachCam needs add-only access to Photos to save clips and frames. Open iPhone Settings → CoachCam → Photos and choose “Add Photos Only.” That’s the narrowest permission level and is all CoachCam needs.

Annotated Video export is taking a long time.

Annotated video export re-renders the clip with your drawings baked in, so it scales with clip length. Long 240fps clips can take 30 seconds or more. Trim down to just the rep before exporting if speed matters. You can cancel an in-progress export from the progress screen.

Clips are showing up rotated or sideways.

Make sure you’re holding the phone portrait when you start recording. If the preview looks rotated while holding the phone sideways, the video will still save correctly — live preview landscape support is on the roadmap.

I deleted a clip by accident.

Unfortunately, CoachCam doesn’t have a trash/recycle bin in v1. Deleted clips are permanently removed from the device. We recommend saving important clips to Photos as you go.

Feature Requests

We built CoachCam from the perspective of a coach who uses video every day. If there’s something you wish the app did — a feature, a sport-specific tool, a workflow you’d like smoother — we want to hear it. Email info@momentumsportsny.com and tell us what you’re trying to do.
